About

Lellie Lopter is a fictional writer and illustrator who probably lives in Australia. She has a tendency towards telling stories and is definitely not living a secret life as a boring academic. Lellie may or may not be addicted to peppermint tea.

An Interview with Lellie Lopter

Where do you actually live?

I live everywhere that I am, which is mostly in Australia.

Are drop bears real?

Yes. Very real and very dangerous.

Are you real?

No. No I am not.

What's your favourite colour?

My favourite colour is called Xanadu. It is the only colour that I know that starts with 'X' and it reminds me of the colour of eucalyptus trees. The word Xanadu also reminds me of a poem called Kubla Khan by Samuel Taylor Coleridge. It’s not a very funny poem but it does have some interesting words. The word Xanadu means an "idyllic, exotic, or luxurious place". In many ways, Australia is my Xanadu.

Do you play a musical instrument?

I play the violin and the kazoo. I prefer the kazoo but would love to learn to play the harp.

Which do you like best, fiction or non-fiction?

I love writing fiction but reading non-fiction.

How do you illustrate your books?

I do not, will not and cannot draw. I use pastels and paints to create backgrounds and cut out my illustrations using scissors, coloured paper and glue.

Does Lellie Lopter rhyme with Helicopter?

Yes. Yes it does.

What is your favourite things to write?

My favourite things to write are post-it-notes, and poems. I also like writing

longer stories and I love writing and receiving letters.

Can I write to you?

Yes. I will even reply to your letter if you include your return postal address.
